Our research environment

We provide a rich and vibrant research environment for our doctoral students. You will have access to the University's well-equipped research infrastructure, including desks, computing equipment, extensive library resources and multi-million pound laboratory and practice-related spaces.

Supervision is provided from world-leading and internationally-excellent academic staff who will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills, and share the techniques and professional networks cultivated through their own cutting-edge research. Pastoral support is also provided alongside academic guidance.

Community and engagement are also important aspects of the Sheffield Hallam doctoral experience. You will be welcomed into both the Doctoral School and the wider research community where you can meet, share and collaborate with hundreds of fellow researchers with a diverse range of research interests. You will become part of the lifeblood of the University's research community, and will be considered active partners in your own and the community's development.

You will also undertake professional development through individually-tailored research training, accessing development opportunities which support the production of excellent research and enhance your employability.
