Sheffield Institute of Arts - 175 Years BookJune 7 2018 – December 31 2018
To celebrate our 175th birthday we've produced a book.
Our new book charts the history of what began as the Sheffield Government School of Design, in a rented room above the municipal swimming baths in 1843. Richly illustrated with ephemera and archive photographs, this 86 page book contains a wealth of fascinating historical material. From steelworkers improving their skills in the evenings, through student successes in the Great Exhibition of 1851, and the Festival of Britain of 1951, to the impact of Betamax technology on one of the first Film Studies courses in the country, the book records the detail of life in an art school over the past 175 years.
Written by Tim Machin and Gemma Milne and designed by Gemma Milne.
The book can be purchased in our online store (free P&P).
