Like LettersSeptember 17 2016 – October 8 2016
An exhibition celebrating creative connections and friendship through the collaborative design of alphabets.
Joanna Rucklidge and Fiona Woodcock have been sharing their love of typography by ‘posting’ letters (of the alphabet) to each other since June 2014. The letters are captured virtually as a visible conversation on a blog, and now the exhibition offers the opportunity to see the artwork and process behind the exchange of ideas, craft & character.
Creative acquaintances from around the world have also been invited to design a letter and post it directly to the gallery. This set of postcards is an alternative alphabet capturing the diversity of personalities and responses, whilst highlighting how creative correspondences can be maintained despite geographical distance.
Visitors are also invited to create their own letters of the alphabet in response to the Like Letters exhibition, whilst celebrating the history and tradition of posting letters, in the former Head Post Office, now the home for Sheffield Institute of Arts.
Come along and see the resulting alphabets in the gallery. Limited edition risograph postcards and a publication to mark the event will also be available.
