Tackling the challenges low-carbon living

The shift to a low-carbon society has wide-ranging implications for our towns and cities. It’s particularly important in the UK, where ambitious targets for reducing emissions and producing renewable energy present significant challenges and opportunities for people and places.

At CRESR our work is shedding light on the key challenges for a low-carbon transition. Our research has included a project finding out how tenants are responding to renewable energy and feel about their unconventional properties. We also revealed that building zero-carbon homes is too costly and difficult in the current economic climate.

We have particular expertise in • housing and health • fuel poverty • housing modernisation and retrofitting • low energy and zero carbon housing • user perspectives in low energy housing • demand side management of energy consumption • carbon governance • economic geographies of low-carbon restructuring • SMEs and low carbon.
