Ros is a principal researcher in CEIR and a principal lecturer within the Division of Education and Humanities.

She has particular research experience relating to early years education and care services, and the children's workforce. This parallels her teaching and programme development experience, which includes work focused on foundation degrees, a Masters Early Childhood Studies and an Early Years Professional Status programme. Ros supervises PhD students and students on the doctorate in education course.

Ros has directed and worked on a variety of funded projects with a focus on early years education and care, and children's workforce issues. She is currently the assistant director for an evaluation of the National College of School Leadership programme, Multi-Professional Team Development (MATD). She has directed evaluation studies for Local Authorities, including a pilot project for the development of Foundation Stage Units and a pilot project for the development of the Early Years teacher role in children's centres. Ros has also worked as a senior researcher on Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) projects relating to the children's workforce.

Ros was an early years teacher and teacher adviser for 20 years. As an early years teacher, she led a school-based project to involve parents in the learning of their young children, from birth to three years. She has experience of both qualitative and quantitative research and research management.
