Ten students from Sheffield Hallam University are celebrating after they were selected to represent the home nations in the Commonwealth Games.

The group of students will represent Wales and England in a number of sports, including athletics, swimming, hockey, table tennis and weightlifting. All of them regularly represent Sheffield Hallam in the British Universities and Colleges Sports league, and compete in the annual Sheffield Varsity competition between the city's two universities.

Swimmer and sport development with coaching student Ellie Faulkner, 21, represented Team GB in the London 2012 Olympic Games, competing in the 800m freestyle.

Ellie said: "I'm really proud to be a part of the Commonwealth Games. We've had so many fantastic sporting events over the last two years - it feels like there's genuine support for sport in this country, and the Commonwealth Games are happening at a great time for the UK.

"The training and support I've had at Sheffield Hallam have been invaluable in helping me prepare for this tournament, and there are lots of opportunities to compete while I'm studying. I'm really excited to be on the world stage again, and I hope I can make everyone proud of Team Sheffield Hallam!"

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games begin on 23 July.
