Issued:05/01/16

Sheffield Hallam University's annual Sport and Physical Activity Student Conference will challenge aspiring sport professionals to address sport's role in a changing society.

Around 400 students will attend the two-day conference, with keynote addresses from sport industry professionals such as Sport England's head of coaching Justyn Price, and Rugby Football Union's head of education development Mark Saltmarsh.

Organiser Damian Kingsbury, principal lecturer in sport and physical activity at the University's Academy of Sport and Physical Activity, said: "It's a challenging but interesting time for sport. With the legacy of the 2012 London Olympic Games being questioned, and a continued rise in poor health as a result of bad lifestyle choices and sedentary behaviours, what can we do to address the balance?

"We will explore these issues by asking how students can contribute and make a difference, during their course and afterwards, as they seek to gain employment in the growing sport and physical activity sector."

The 2016 Academy of Sport and Physical Activity Annual Student Conference takes place at Sheffield Hallam on Thursday 14 January and Friday 15 January.
