Issued:31/07/18

Sheffield Hallam University has achieved 86 percent overall student satisfaction in this year’s National Survey of Students (NSS) - a 1% increase on last year.

The NSS is a high-profile annual census of nearly half a million students across the UK, commissioned by the Office for Students. Aimed at mainly final-year undergraduates, it gathers opinions about their time in higher education, asking them to provide honest feedback about what it has been like to study on their course at their institution.

Nearly 60 of the University's courses achieved an overall satisfaction of more than 90%, with 15 courses securing 100%.

The NSS results follow the University’s inclusion earlier this month within the top 10 European universities for both student engagement and environment by the Times Higher Education (THE) Europe Teaching Rankings 2018.

In addition the University moved up an impressive 15 places in the recent Guardian University Guide 2019.

Sheffield Hallam's vision is to become the world's leading applied university, transforming lives and creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds.

The University delivers a range of comprehensive courses and is one of the country's largest providers of health and teacher training. Home to the UK's biggest modern business school, the University's industrial partnerships ensure that the knowledge students develop is relevant, addresses the skills gap and helps business grow.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Chris Husbands, said: "Achieving outstanding outcomes for students is our top priority, so we are encouraged by the latest NSS results which show improving satisfaction ratings. These results are testament to the hard work from the whole Sheffield Hallam team."

Professor Christina Hughes, University Provost, said: "The results of this year's NSS highlights the real progress Sheffield Hallam is making in providing an excellent experience for students as well as first-rate teaching and learning facilities.

"The fact that we are rated well above the national average overall and nearly 60 different courses have secured more than 90% satisfaction is a great achievement.

"Providing an excellent student experience will continue to be a key priority for Sheffield Hallam and we will use the feedback to help us plan even more improvements going forward."
