Sheffield Hallam academic, Professor Clare Midgley has been quoted in The Independent in an article about the role of women in the abolition of slavery. She talks about how Mary Prince, who played a key part of the abolition campaign, wasn’t just telling an individual story – she told about how this was typical of women’s oppression, sexual abuse, physical violence and overwork.
