Robin's clinical background is in acute and emergency care, and his PhD examined the complexity of gender issues in the provision of diabetes care.

He completed his Post-Doctoral Fellowship in 2011, in which he worked in partnership with the Yorkshire Regional Clinical Simulation Centre to look at the clinical and cost-effectiveness of high fidelity simulation as an educational strategy. Building upon his Post-Doctoral Fellowship, he is involved with a number of funded research projects, including one that is investigating the development of simulation assessment tools for use with different professional groups.

He is a columnist for the Nursing Standard, writing a regular column on clinical issues, and a reviewer for the Nursing Standard and the Journal of Advanced Nursing.
