Sheffield Hallam University's second annual Family Fun Day played host to hundreds of children and families across the region who enjoyed a BBQ, free exhibits, arts and crafts, and sporting challenges.

The free all-day event took place on Friday 27 July at City Campus, and offered children aged 4-13 the chance to try out exciting educational activities led by students and staff from each of the University's four faculties.

"This was one of the most diverse community events the University has ever hosted, with everything from arts and crafts, to robotics and radiotherapy. It was a wonderful opportunity to welcome local families to campus where they could have fun, learn new skills and meet Hallam academics and students alike," said Michelle Eccles, part of the University's schools and colleges engagement team.

As one of the UK's largest higher education providers, with over 30,500 students, the University is committed to the Sheffield City Region, providing leadership to make improvements in social mobility, health and the economy.

Events like Family Fun Day strengthen Hallam's commitment to connect with the local community and deliver its mission to lead on widening access to higher education for people from all backgrounds.

“Sheffield Hallam University is committed to widening participation and transforming lives. We are a leader in addressing the regional skills gap and in providing opportunities for the next generation.

This event gave us a chance to strengthen our ties in the community, by involving children and their families in new activities that showcase some of the pathways into higher education by introducing them to topics they could study in the future." says Aidan Begley, Senior Widening Participation & Outreach Officer, Widening Participation & Outreach Team.

Sheffield Hallam University is one of the most prominent universities in the UK for driving improvements in education and championing social mobility. It delivers a comprehensive range of courses and is one of the country's largest providers of health and teacher training. Home to the UK's biggest modern business school, the University's industrial partnerships ensure that the knowledge students develop is relevant, addresses the skills gap and helps grow local business.
