Madhumita joined Sheffield Hallam University in June 2018 as a Lecturer in Criminology.

Her doctoral research explored gender socialization and perceptions of culpability in the narratives of convicted violent offenders from Delhi prison. This groundbreaking research was one of the first studies of its kind in India to examine perspectives of convicted rapists and garnered much attention internationally.

Madhumita’s broad area of interest is qualitative research on violence against women. Further specialisms lie in sexual violence and sexual offending. She is currently involved in Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice’s project on gender-based violence with a focus on trafficking, modern slavery and human rights in India.
