Jake is course leader for game development. He moved to academia after a career spanning 14 years in the videogames industry. During this time he worked on over 12 published games for the PlayStation 1 and 2, XBox, Gamecube and Nintendo DS. He has also written books on game development.

Jake is studio manager of Sheffield Hallam's in-house game studio Steel Minions. The studio is an official PlayStation minis developer and provides a commercially licensed environment for students to bring games to market through the PlayStation Network (PSN). He has spoken to various national and regional broadcast media, including Sky News and BBC Look North about Games Britannia and more.
