Sheffield Hallam University's packaging design team, Design Futures, are in the running for two distinguished national titles.

The team has been shortlisted in two categories at this year's UK Packaging Awards - the leading packaging industry awards.

Design Futures are up for 'Design Team of the Year' for the wide range of packaging design project work which has been completed over the past 12 months including offering support to local SME businesses through the Sheffield Innovation Programme (SIP) - which is part-funded by the England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020

Design Futures, which is part of Sheffield Hallam's Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute (C3RI), are also in the running for ‘Corrugated Online Retail Pack of the Year’ for the their work designing the packaging for local Sheffield start up, Bear Hugs.

The unique pack which 'reaches out to give the opener a hug' has helped Bear Hugs achieve remarkable business success.

The University has provided support to Bear Hugs through both SIP and our involvement in the Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RIDO) led Y-accelerator project, which aimed to support individuals, teams or companies looking to get a new business idea off the ground.
